Featured Work :: Corporate Events :: Cenovus 2014 Christmas Party

You can't go wrong with a Canadiana themed Christmas party! We were commissioned by Kristina of Special Event Rentals to create custom cross-stitch banners of Canadian animals for the Cenovus 2014 Christmas party. Along with these decor pieces were functional signage to direct the party guests. Photography by Shandro Photo

Featured Work :: Corporate Events :: Bioware 2014 Christmas Party

Last year we were lucky to score a bunch of corporate events that were so much fun to design! We are mostly known for wedding stationery, but have been gaining more corporate clients in the last couple of years. This is an exciting direction for our company. Over the next few weeks I'm going to share some of the corporate work we created in 2014.

Our first feature is a show-stopping event planned by Fresh Look Event Management. Bioware combined the Dragon Age video game launch with their holiday party for a medieval castle courtyard theme. Other vendors includes Laurel's On Whyte (florals) and Crystal.Puim.Photography (photography)

Featured Work :: Destination Invitations

Over the last couple of years I've been designing more and more destination invitations. Because of this trend, I thought I'd showcase some of our most popular designs. All of these invitations are available as part our "Collection", which can be ordered in-person or through our Etsy store

Canadian Wedding Industry Awards :: 2014 Winner

In October 2014, the Canadian Wedding Industry Awards were announced and we won Best Wedding Stationer (AB) and Best Wedding Invitation (AB)! This post reveals the work and description that won us the honour.

Best Wedding Stationer (AB)

The body of work submitted represents wedding stationery with a high level of personalized design tailored to each couples’ wedding style. Throughout the design process, an emphasis is placed on getting to know each couple and the vision of their wedding. Because of this level of customization, there are vast stylistic differences, from streamlined modern to traditional medieval. Another component that contributes to the uniqueness of the wedding stationery shown is the production value. Each piece uses different printing and finishing details for the highest quality production. The modern coral and navy invitation is letterpress printed on cotton stock and the medieval floral invitation is delicately laser-cut.

Our company is unique for a number of reasons, but the first and foremost is the fundamentals of design training. The owner and lead designer is a graduate of the Bachelor of Design program at the University of Alberta. This knowledge of visual aesthetics and printing production allows our clients access to some of the finest suppliers and products such as letterpress printing, foil and die-cuts. We also offer distinct décor products like large signs, banners, and dance floor decals. Our experience and training gives us the ability to create a range of stylistic artwork from custom watercolour illustrations to polished monogram logos. Additionally, our focus is on both design and functionality. It’s important for the stationery to enhance the guest experience so we speak in depth with our clients about the logistics of the wedding in order to make recommendations on event stationery. A popular and functional product is informational signage that can be used for things such as social media hashtags, photo booths, candy bars or directions. Overall, our focus on each detail throughout the stationery process leaves the client with stationery they are proud to share.

Best Wedding Invitation (AB)

Nicky & Blake's medieval laser-cut wedding invitation

The inspiration for this wedding invitation suite primarily came from the venue, The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, which is an iconic mountain castle in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The bride wanted to hint at the medieval characteristics of the hotel complimented by rich floral textures, which were to be included in the wedding décor. A medieval-style display font was used for the names and titles, while the rest of the typography was a classic serif and script. To incorporate the idea of medieval armor, as suggested by the bride, I created a distressed pattern from a photograph of a solid iron gate. It was very important for the piece to have substance and weight, so the invitation was sized to fit an A9 envelope. The bride wanted the invitation to feel luxurious, so combinations of unique metallic coloured papers were used with laser-cutting. To add a level of personalization to this suite, we not only created custom postage stamps, but also a wax seal. The wax seal was a deer head, which spoke to the outdoor nature of the Banff wedding location, as well as the groom's love of hunting.

As a designer, this suite was one of the most logistically challenging to produce. There were a number of suppliers, printers, and finishers involved in creating the final piece. The invitation was digitally printed on the inside of a saddle-stitched booklet with a laser-cut cover. The rsvp and accommodation inserts were also digitally printed and included behind the invite. The suite was hand-assembled and packaged with a metallic cigar band.

Stylized Shoot featured on Wedluxe

Using radiant orchid, copper, and triangles as inspiration, a sleek and unique stationery set was created for a creative shoot in early 2012. The shoot was a collaboration of talented vendors (listed below) To see more images head over to WedLuxe.com to check out the full feature.

Real Wedding :: Tina & John

Better late than never! I'm catching up on some real wedding posts from 2012. I'm a sucker for uber modern style so Tina & John's wedding stationery was one of my favourite to design in 2012. This Alberta Art Gallery wedding designed and executed by Jennifer Bergman Weddings oozed with style. This wedding was also featured on the prestigious Wedluxe blog. Enjoy some of the photos captured by Kelly Redinger Photography
